FROM LANDLUBBER TO MASTER SAILOR
I haven’t always been a sailor truth be told I was born on the prairies. A small (at the time) town in southeastern Alberta. Lucky for me, there was a significant lake fairly close and we did spend a lot of time out there. I loved the lake… Usually, I was the first one in the water after the ice was gone – sometimes even before the ice was gone. I do love the water, ‘course, now I prefer warm water or at least no ice.
SV DAMIFINO
We bought our boat thinking that we would sail around the Gulf Islands in the Strait of Georgia, up to Hornby and Desolation Sound. We thought it would be easier and more fun that hauling a camper across on the ferries. There are over 200 Islands in the area, some of the nicest cruising in the world. Although the Strait of Georgia can get some serious strong winds and storms, for the most part the weather is ideal for learning to sail. The wildlife is amazing and diverse, the sea creatures, birds and land mammals rival life anywhere in the world!
We want to share our experiences with you, learning to sail, learning our boat, learning how to take care of each other out at sea and learning everything else that we don’t yet know we need to learn. We will be (learning how to) take pictures and document our adventures in a way that will (hopefully) inspire other landlubbers to take up the adventure. Please leave a comment to let us know what you would like to see us do or where we should go. Over the next two years we will be cruising and modifying our boat to be able to take the ‘Big Left’ and head south to warm and tropical waters. Stay tuned and cheer us on as we learn and develop into seasoned sailors.
SAILING DAMIFINO
We want to be able to embolden and excite you to leave your inhibitors and go for it. Life is too short and valuable to get stuck and put things off until you get around to it. You can get your own ’round to-its’ at our e store completely eliminating that excuse. You can learn from our mistakes and our successes – feel our failures and enjoy our triumphs. Be there with us as we experience all that sailing the Pacific North West has to offer. Let us know in the comment box or email us at LNR@damifino.org how you felt about a particular episode. If you have any advice for us, we appreciate that too.
